I recently spent a few days working with Veenstra & Kimm, an engineering firm in West Des Moines. V&K wanted updated headshots of their employees. They were looking for professional images that had a consistent look and feel.
I spent one morning photographing employees at their office in West Des Moines and a second evening capturing employees who were in town for their annual dinner. At the dinner, I setup in a corner of the cocktail reception and people popped in to my traveling studio to have their headshot taken before attending the dinner. All in all I photographed headshots for almost 60 people!
For this shoot I was able to get through all the shots we needed fairly quickly and efficiently. I spent 10-15 minutes with each person capturing a variety of angles and expressions. The employees in the West Des Moines office were given the opportunity to look at the images on my computer and pick which image was their favorite. The favorites were then retouched. I heard over and over again, “wow, that was a lot less painful then I thought it was going to be!”
Shooting tethered really helps alleviate some of the stress people feel about having their picture taken. The session can be more collaborative and the client gets to leave knowing that they got the final say about which image was ultimately going ot be used.
I really enjoyed getting to spend time with the employees at V&K. They all were so welcoming and seemed like they really enjoy working with each other. I am thrilled with the final images and am excited to see that they are already putting the images to work on social media and other platforms.
Thank you V&K for having me! Check out a few of my favorites below.
